Green Woodwork is the use of freshly felled timber (the wood is still 'green') to craft useful and interesting products.  It is soft and easy to cut when it’s fresh using hand tools and your own muscle power. Wood is locally sourced from Sweet Chestnut, Ash, Hornbeam and Hazel coppice so avoiding transport costs, pollution and felling of tropical rainforest. Using simple devices such as the shave horse and pole lathe, discover the pleasures to be had from:

NO sawdust

NO dangerous, noisy machinery

NO need for petrol or electricity

RIVING fresh wood with a froe

TRIMMING with an axe

SHAVING with shave horse and drawknife

We will bring our lathe, shavehorse and chopping block to your club, school or event. This could be for a morning, afternoon, evening, a whole day or a weekend. We can:

Discuss the history of the lathe

Let you have a go

Bring a whole variety of treen and chairs

Bring a selection of antique and second-hand woodworking tools

Talk about timbers, their uses and identification

A fully interactive display

These are just some of the possibilities. Please contact us by phone or email to discuss your needs and we will tailor our demonstration/talk to your event.
