GREEN WOODWORK COURSES

 

Introduction to Green Woodwork.

A one day course giving a good practical taste of all the different processes. You will be supplied with all the basic raw materials and a chance to try your hand with a variety of different tools - froe, axes, drawknife, gouges. At the end of the course the treen you've made is yours to take home.

Spooncarving
This one day course is an introduction to spooncarving. You will be using timbers suitable for culinary use such as sycamore, cherry and birch. Tools we will be using are axes, drawknives and a variety of spokeshaves, gouges, curved and hooked knives. You will have the opportunity to make a spoon, spatula, fork, scoop, salad servers or pot scraper or as many of these as you have the ability to make !


Stool making


A Three Legged Stool from a Log.
A two day course to make a stool from green wood. The first day will be spent developing your green woodworking techniques and shaving or turning the legs. The stool will be rustic and made from one log and the cost of raw materials is included in the course.  The second day of your course will be preparing your stool top, drilling the leg holes, assembling and finishing your stool.

Cost £250. Starting at 10am and ending at 5pm each day this price includes tea, coffee, cold drinks.

A Frame Stool

A two day course to make a stool from green wood.  This is a more advanced course and you will need to have done an Introduction to Green Woodwork first.  Day1 - making the legs and stretchers (12 components)  Day2 - assembling the stool and weaving the seat.

Cost £280 including all materials. Starting at 10am and ending at 5pm each day this price includes tea, coffee, cold drinks.


Tools

A 1 day course where you can learn the art of making handles for axes, hammers, chisels, drawknives etc. Learn how to make a mallet or a club.  Please contact me for available dates.


Sharpening

Bring your old blunt tools and discover how to obtain that razor sharp edge.  We will be using a variety of sharpening techniques and equipment and the course will be held in Waltham Abbey as we may need electricity.

This is a one-to-one course and costs £150.  Starting at 10am and ending at 5pm this price includes tea, coffee, cold drinks and lunch.


Workshops for Improvers

For those of you who have been on an Introduction to Green Woodwork and would like to continue to develop their skills or just to practise turning and carving.

We have five  Pole Lathes, all different, including a Bowl Lathe and a Bow Lathe for you to try out.  There’s a big work bench, plenty of Shave Horses and even a Bowl Mate if you fancy your hand at a bit of bowl carving.  We’ve added to our tool collection with some amazing new knives for Spoon Carving, Chisels, Gouges, Axes and they’re all available for you to use.

One-to-one Tuition

Working on a one to one basis - you get my total undivided attention to make the most of your day.  These are run at my workshop at home in Waltham Abbey at a mutually arranged date.   Cost is £150 per day on weekdays and £200 weekend days.  Starting at 10am and ending at 5pm this price includes tea, coffee, cold drinks, lunch and any basic materials.


Gift Certificate

You can purchase a Green Woodwork Gift Certificate to give as a present. On receipt of payment we will email you a personalised certificate to give ‘on the day’

We run these on our woodland field in the countryside North of Epping and close to Junction 7 on the M11. 

Cost per person is £125 on weekend days and £100 on a weekday.  This includes all basic materials.

Starting at 10am and ending at 5pm this price includes tea and coffee - bring your own lunch.

Children should be aged 11+

Please be realistic about your skill levels and ability. If you have never had any woodworking experience or have never used hand tools before the Introduction to Green Woodwork is a good starting point.

If you are bitten by the bug you can always come again

Remember - green woodworking is an outdoor activity so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear ie. no open toed sandals, flip-flops or crocs!

Courses are reserved with a non-refundable deposit of £25 per day.
